[The video feed shows Pao-lin sitting cross-legged on her bed, her hands resting clasped on her legs. When she speaks, her voice is a bit trembly, but she makes up for it with a big -- though apologetic -- smile.]

Um...to everyone whose things I might've broken or messed up during the experiment...I just wanted to say I'm really sorry. If you want or need my help in fixing things, I'll be glad to make up for the trouble I caused.

[Later in the day, she can be found at the tea shop, drinking tea while reading a novel she borrowed from the library, or at the Battle Dome, further testing out her own capabilities as well as those of the Battle Dome.]

[Pao-lin also swiftly dodges the fire, heading in the opposite direction from Kain. Across the way, she spots the dragoon leaping into the air, and it occurs to her then that going into a dangerously unfamiliar situation with a mute person as her only guide was...probably not the smartest thing she's ever done. But dammit, she's going to ride a dragon if it kills her. Which it won't in this simulation. It might hurt a lot, but she can deal with the pain.

With a deep breath to calm her nerves, she gets moving again, quickly formulating a possible plan. She's going to lure a dragon to the nearest cliff edge so that she can hopefully hop over and hang on. That seems reasonable enough, right?

Pao-lin glows blue as she targets a dragon off to the side of the main flight with her lightning powers. Her bolts are weak and miss pretty wide, but she's not trying to hurt the creature -- just draw its attention to her.]

[Perhaps they could have gone into this with more of a plan. But even then, there'd be too many possibilities for something unexpected to happen. As he soars along through the air, Kain quickly eyes one of the dragons below him. It's a large, majestic one that reminds him of his father's dragon.]

[He comes soaring down to land upon the dragon's back. Now the hard part- especially voiceless- getting the dragon to listen. He does this by patting it reassuringly, and by drawing upon Wind magic, making the winds favor its flight.]

[He's sure to keep an eye out for Pao-lin below, in case she's encountering any trouble.]

[Trouble? It doesn't take long for that to happen. One of Pao-lin's "missed" shots not only cuts pretty close to the dragon she was aiming at, but it accidentally hits another dragon some distance behind the first one as well, causing both of them to turn on her in fiery rage. She takes cover behind a large rock, huddling up against it and curling up into a little ball as the flames crash against it.

Once the air clears, she glances up to see the two dragons soaring overhead. At first she thinks that they've forgotten about her after that first pass, but no, they quickly angle themselves downwards, heading straight for her again.

[Kain urges his dragon along, seeing the danger that's incoming toward Pao-lin... he's got to hurry... he urges the dragon downward faster. Together they soar after the aggressors. Kain's dragon unleashes a blast of fire, which is enough to distract one of the two to turn and fight.]

[Pao-lin barely has time to sigh in relief at Kain's intervention as the remaining dragon swoops down upon her, breathing fire. She throws herself sideways and ducks to the ground to avoid the attack. As Pao-lin gets to her feet, she changes her original plan slightly. She glows blue again with her power, raising a fist encased in sparkling lightning.]

Hey, you! Come and get me if dare!

[The dragon's way ahead of her there. No sooner had she stood up that it flipped about in mid-air to go after her again.

This time, though, Pao-lin doesn't run. She dodges the fire blasts as necessary, but stands her ground until the dragon gets within ideal range, at which point she blasts it with the lightning from her hand, hoping to take it down for long enough that she can climb aboard.]

[Kain keeps up the fight against the other dragon, directing his in to fight. Though the dragon he's on also has some ideas of its own and strikes against their opponent with claws and a burst of flame. That opponent counterattacks with its own fiery blast. Kain quickly calls upon the wind to blow the flames away from doing him harm.]

[Pao-lin manages to nail a lightning blast right in the middle of the dragon's chest. It goes down with a roar, barely avoiding landing headfirst in the rocky ground.

Before there's time for either the dragon to get up or Pao-lin to rethink her plan, Pao-lin runs up to it and clambers on, carefully positioning herself so that she's straddling the base of the dragon's neck. She's a bit surprised to find the dragon warm to the touch, and she pats it in wonder.

That's when the dragon regains its senses, thrashing around to try and throw Pao-lin off. It's all the girl can do to hang on as best as she can.]

[Kain is still maintaining a pretty good control over his dragon- but it comes with the dragoon territory. The one they're up against is putting up a more difficult fight than he'd anticipated though, and they circle around through the sky before hitting it with more flames.]

[This, finally, weakens it enough to let Kain's dragon get an upper hand. While things are a little better under control, he glances, surprised and glad to see Pao-lin has gotten onto one of her own. Not bad at all.]

[Pao-lin grips tight and clenches her eyes shut as her dragon takes off high into the air, spiraling and flipping to try and shake her off. She shouts apologies and reassurances, but they're a little lost in the wind and she doesn't know if they'll work against dragons anyway. But soon enough, the dragon's movements come to a relative lull, and Pao-lin pets it reassuringly along its neck, still whispering more apologies for hurting it and reassurances that she won't do so again.

Finally, the dragon seems placated enough, and Pao-lin rests a little easier against it as the two glide gently through the skies. Despite her relaxed posture, her heart is thudding against her chest from the adrenaline of first taming the dragon and then actually registering that, omg, she's riding a dragon. This is like one of the best things she's ever gotten to do in Luceti.

After a few minutes, she straightens up and leans carefully to one side, testing out how she can steer the dragon. She's going to try and make her way to where Kain is.]

[The dragons continue to clash, with Kain's winning out. He glances over to see the other dragon coming his way, deciding to hold his position to make it easier for her to catch up.]

[So far so good with all of this. Having someone else here, both of them riding dragonback... it reminds him of the way the Dragoons would be, with their fleets of dragons. Less so in his time, of course, but in the real glory days of the Dragoons, under his father's command. That definitely gives this whole thing another level of excitement.]

[When Pao-lin catches up, she waves to him with a big smile.]

Hi, Mr. Highwind!

[She keeps pace with him, but lets him take the lead. Any interesting places they could visit while on dragonback?]

[Another burst of fire, and the battle is won against the enemy dragon. Now that they've gotten the threats dealt with, Kain realizes they do have the freedom to go through the skies, wherever they'd like. Why not show off more of this simulation of his world?]

[For now, Kain leads the way over the mountains, keeping them high above their towering peaks below.]

[At first Pao-lin just chills a bit, admiring the landscape. But she soon craves a little more action, and she'll start trying to guide her dragon into epic swoops and flips.]

[More landscapes gradually fly by beneath them as they go. Kain definitely can appreciate the need to have some excitement up there in the air, and he unleashes a series of his own flipping and swooping around, going into some dragoon maneuvers.]

[When she manages to get by Kain's side again, she flashes him a big grin.]

Hey! I'll race you to that mountain over there!

[She points at a mountain peak in the distance, and then urges her dragon forward without waiting for a reply, verbal or otherwise. Really, asking Kain to race was kind of a formality: she would've tested how fast she could go on dragonback regardless.]

[Kain nods firmly. She is so on for this race. He loves a good competition, and especially one that involves his favorite element. In a way it's even... the closest he gets to 'fun' with most other people. So away he goes, urging his own dragon to fly swifter than before.]

[Pao-lin glances back to see Kain gaining on her. Hmm...how to keep her lead...? She decides to try something out -- it's kind of a long shot, but she's wanted to try something like it for a while and now's a pretty good time to test it.

She guides her dragon into a sharp swoop towards the nearest slope. Once they're skirting quite close to it, Pao-lin fires the most potent, sustained surge of lightning she can muster behind her into the slope, hoping her element will propel her forward the way that Blue Rose's ice does. It works...a little bit. But mostly it just carves a crooked line into the mountainside. (Does lightning even work like that? It does now.) Still, she lets out one last pulse of electricity as she guides her dragon back up into the air.]

[It really is some impressive lightning, and Kain realizes he's got to really get moving faster if he's to catch her. He urges his dragon on, using all the dragoon techniques he knows to make it move faster. He draws upon the wind to help him as well. It's a really challenging exertion of this power. But it's also good to see just how much he can use it, as they move along faster...]

[She's gaining on the end point of their race now. And so is Kain, actually -- that wind magic of his combined with his experience in riding dragons soon allows him to overtake her. She shakes a fist at him in mock indignation.]

Hey, come back here, you!

[Victory!!! Kain urges the dragon along, even a rare hint of a semi-smile on his face for a quick moment. Ok, so he's enjoying this. As always being in the sky puts him in a good mood.]

[Pao-lin passes the finish line not long after Kain. Dang, she was so close, too! Ah, well, that's okay. What's important is that she had fun, and she's hoping Kain did too.]

All right, I'm challenging you again! And this time I'll win!

[This is, of course, when the simulation ends.]

[Kain did enjoy this, surprising as it might be that he's capable of fun in that way. He glances all around as the setting fades away, the dragons, mountains, all of it vanishing. Now he gets a chance to write a response.]

Next time. I'll hold you to that challenge.

[Biiiig grin.]

[And with that, Kain feels he's gotten enough of a training session to call it a day. Time to head off home.]
