[The video feed shows Pao-lin sitting cross-legged on her bed, her hands resting clasped on her legs. When she speaks, her voice is a bit trembly, but she makes up for it with a big -- though apologetic -- smile.]

Um...to everyone whose things I might've broken or messed up during the experiment...I just wanted to say I'm really sorry. If you want or need my help in fixing things, I'll be glad to make up for the trouble I caused.

[Later in the day, she can be found at the tea shop, drinking tea while reading a novel she borrowed from the library, or at the Battle Dome, further testing out her own capabilities as well as those of the Battle Dome.]

[She nods.] Well, I usually like reading comics or manga over books, but this is one of my favorite stories ever. [The title reads White Light by Cynthia Yih Shih, and the cover illustration is of a girl standing on a mountain with her arms held out to her sides.] What brings you here? Um, I mean, aside from getting tea.

Actually I was checking to see if they had any stronger coffee. I swear the Malnosso keep putting weaker and weaker blends in the shops.

[Or he drinks too much. Whichever.]

Oh, I see. I don't really drink coffee a lot. The closest I get to coffee is drinking frappuccinos from the local Buckstars back home.

Frappucinos? Buckstars? [He drinks his disgusting marine coffee black and likes it that way. But seriously, someone should slip fancier things into his coffee without telling him. Possibly.]

No offense, but I wouldn't normally think someone so young should be drinking coffee?

Frappuccinos don't have a lot of coffee in them. Actually, sometimes they don't have any coffee, it just depends on what kind you get. Whatever flavor you choose, like mocha or strawberry, it gets blended with milk and ice and some other stuff, and it's topped with whipped cream.

So it's like caffeinated milkshake? That actually sounds pretty good.

It is! [She glances around the tea shop.] I don't think I've seen it on the menu here. Maybe if I put in a request...?

Couldn't hurt to ask. You could suggest it and get other people to request it too.

I'll try doing that, then, thanks! [She'll go back to her novel now so that Smoker can go get his coffee. He can definitely join her later if he wants!]

[You know what? He will. Because it's Luceti. It's pretty boring when there isn't a shift. Hopefully she doesn't mind the big silent type of company though. Because he is the worst at small talk ever.]

[Pao-lin glances up from her book when Smoker sits down across from her.]

Ah...did you manage to get the coffee you wanted?

Yeah... sort of. It's not a Grand Line blend. It says... "Columbian." Whatever. Worth a shot I suppose.

[Pao-lin laughs a little.]

I hope you like it.

[Does he?]

[Takes a sip.]

Yeah, it's good. How's yours? [Nods to her book and drink.]

They're both good! I just got the oolong tea because it's what I'm used to, but I'll probably try something else soon. After all, it's free!

Oolong huh?

[A shrug. He'll never understand the attraction to tea. Sadly.]

Yeah, that's one good thing about this place, though I'm surprised it's something someone your age could appreciate -- no offense.

It's okay. I know most people my age don't drink tea. But I used to drink it a lot back in Hong Kong before I moved to Sternbild, so I'm used to it. [As if to illustrate this, she takes her mug of tea in both hands and drinks deeply from it. It's only slightly hotter than lukewarm at the moment, having been forgotten while Pao-lin was engrossed in her novel.]

Hong Kong? Is that common there? [Softer expression, more focused on listening.]

Yeah. My parents brewed it for breakfast and lunch and sometimes dinner, and most restaurants we went to served tea when you were seated. I was a little surprised when they didn't do anything like that in most places in Sternbild.

Huh. Why didn't they?

[She takes another sip of tea.]

I guess most people in Sternbild just prefer coffee...

[Grins.] Now that's a reason I can understand.

You don't like tea at all, Mr. Smoker?

It's not strong tasting enough for me.

Oh, I see. [Not quite, but hey, everyone has different tastes.] What's your favorite kind of coffee, then?
